2023 Poster Abstract Submission Guidelines

The 2023 Missouri ACC Fellows in Training Moderated Poster Session to be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at the Missouri ACC Annual Scientific Session.  The meeting will be held live at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Convention Center in Columbia, MO.

This poster session is open to all FITs in both pediatric and adult cardiology training programs in Missouri.  The requirements include:
1)    Both clinical and basic science original research and challenging cases are considered.  
2)    Can be submitted by fellow-in-training, residents, medical students or undergraduate students.
3)    Presenter must available to attend the meeting and present at the moderated poster session, when selected.
4)    Original research or challenging cases could have been presented in the previous local or national meetings.

The first prize will be a trip to ACC.24 Annual Scientific Session.  All presenters presenting an abstract will receive a gift card to use on ACC educational products!

Formatting Requirements
1.    Please submit via a Word document.
2.    Please include the title, and name of the authors, and institution.
3.    The abstract must be presented in the following sequence, using the headings listed below.
4.    Character limit: 1900
5.    One figure or table can be included. This will be included as 600 characters as part of 1900 character limit.

A. Original research
1.    Background: In an initial paragraph, provide relevant information regarding the background and purpose of the study.
2.    Methods: Briefly state the methods used.
3.    Results: Summarize the results in sufficient detail.
4.    Conclusion: State the conclusion reached.

B. Challenging case:
1.    Background: In an initial paragraph, provide relevant background information preferably in no more than one or two sentences.
2.    Case: Describe the patient, their history and any other relevant information.
3.    Decision making: Discuss what choices were made based on the case, how you proceeded and any relevant teaching point.
4.    Conclusion: State the conclusion reached.

Poster Presenter Preparation and Presentation Details

The poster session will take place in Foyer outside the Grand Ballroom on the Main Level of the Holiday Inn Hotel & Convention Center.

You may display your poster beginning at 7:00 AM.  We ask that you leave it displayed until after the poster judging is completed and winners are announced at 1:00 PM.  

You are responsible for printing your poster and bringing it with you to the meeting.  Please check you’re your training program coordinator regarding printing resources available to you.  

PREPARING AND PRESENTING POSTER ABSTRACTS
Poster abstracts will be presented as traditional flat board posters with an accompanying submission to the chapter website for follow up review.  

  1. Your poster must be displayed on the appropriate poster board for the entire schedule poster session.
  2. You must physically stand at your poster board during the scheduled meeting breaks.
  3. Staff will be available to provide information, assistance, and supplies. No audiovisual, projection, or computer equipment requiring electrical power will be permitted in the poster session area.
  4. The poster format could be traditional format or central illustration format.
Basic formatting guidelines:
  1. One (1) PDF file, 1 page maximum
  2. Landscape format: 36" H x 60" W

Breaks are scheduled to encourage attendees to visit the poster sessions and interact with the presenters. At the end of the session, you must remove your poster.  Posters remaining on poster boards, on the floor or in poster area will be removed for discard.

BEST POSTER AWARD:
One winner will be selected to receive a $1,000 travel stipend to attend ACC.24.  Winners will be acknowledged in chapter communications.
